Radio Bonaire 1530 is your source of information during emergencies, specifically for residents and visitors of Bonaire. Thanks to an off-grid system and continuous broadcasting, you stay informed at all times, even during power outages or other emergencies.
Always reachable, even without power
Our emergency transmitter operates completely independently of the power grid. This ensures that this vital source of information remains available when other means of communication fail. Whether due to extreme weather or other emergencies, we do everything we can to keep you informed.
What can you expect?
The emergency transmitter itself is not the goal, the goal is that there is a good facility to provide the citizens and visitors of Bonaire with information when needed.
The necessary information comes from official bodies. This station serves as an accessible channel for disseminating information that citizens ought to receive. We do not generate alerts ourselves.
When there are no announcements, we will broadcast music almost continuously; we have no commercials and no news broadcasts.
Your own emergency receiver.
To receive Radio 1530, you need a radio with an AM (medium wave) band. And, of course, it is wise to have a radio that does not rely on mains power—one that runs on batteries or rechargeable battery packs.
Many types are available for purchase, featuring a small solar panel and/or a hand crank for charging. These radios often come with a high-capacity battery that allows you to charge other devices. They range in price from approximately $15 to $90, depending, of course, on the features you require.

The goal is for our broadcasts to ensure that everyone on Bonaire receives essential information during prolonged power outages or emergencies, thereby enhancing safety and preparedness.
Self-sufficient energy supply.
You are likely familiar with these antenna masts; they provide the connection for your phone or Wi-Fi. If the power fails, connectivity usually remains available for several hours. Thanks to our off-grid power system, transmissions continue even during a main grid outage, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.
Voluntary effort and local engagement.
Our team consists of volunteers. These volunteers are also official radio amateurs with decades of experience in transmitter and antenna techniques. In case of emergency, we can communicate quickly with other parts of the world.
